Tasmanian Grown English Leicester lamb locks hand dyed in a strong jewel colours.

The staple lengths will vary as these locks are from lambs at their first shearing and because these locks have been hand dyed 'in the grease' it means they have not been washed and disturbed too much prior to dyeing, there may be a little residual lanolin (lovely for your hands) and possibly the odd stray piece of vegetable matter remaining.

Possible Uses

For the hand spinner, the fibres can be combed, hand or carefully drum carded, or each staple can even be simply hand flicked and introduced to the wheel as you spin.

For the felters, these lock can add texture and dimension to your project. Flick the cut ends and lay them out with a little matching coloured merino covering the end to make sure the felt in properly.

A little about the stud and sheep that grew these locks.

Melton Park English Leicester Stud is a very special place in Tasmania.  Anne Heazlewood cares for her English Leicester sheep on the Heazlewood property where English Leicester sheep have been raised for over 150 years.  In fact, the property has been breeding English Leicester sheep since 1854! Melton Park takes a sustainable/permaculture approach to farming.  Since the property has been involved with sheep for so long, the pastures are healthy and well maintained, allowing for healthy and happy sheep.

Care for your fibres

These lamb locks have been hand dyed using Australian made dyes. Please hand wash your finished item in cool water with an approved wool wash separately first.

Due to the way these have been dyed "in the grease' there may be a minor amount of dye and lanolin wash out in the first wash.
